Skarv Shipping Solutions AS, based in Bergen, shared on LinkedIn that the Peak Skarv 1 has been begun its maiden voyage from China to Europe.
Captain Oleksiy Bondarenko and his crew raised the Norwegian flag at the stern of the vessel upon completion of the vessel's registry under the Norwegian/NIS flag.
The ship is the first of a class of four vessels. With a DWT of 7900, a LOA of 108.2 meters, and a beam of 18.1 meters, "we are convinced the vessel will be a success in the North European shortsea market." Said Skarv Shipping on LinkedIn.
LMG Marin has designed the ships based on the core competence of Peak CSL Group AS and Grieg Edge, with vital contributions from SSY Global (former Grieg Shipbrokers).
“These ships are far more climate-friendly than what we see in the short-sea market in Europe today, with a very low fuel consumption. They are not what we imagine is the final climate solution for shipping, but they are a giant step in the right direction,” said our CEO, Jan Øivind Svardal.
The design includes an optimised engine ready for ammonia or methanol, batteries, a shore-power system, peak shaving with a dynamic propeller drive system, and a high-voltage switchboard prepared for future green power production, such as fuel cell technologies and increased battery capacity.
Now, the vessel will pick up its first cargo before heading for Europe, arriving before the summer.
“We wish the crew of PEAK SKARV 1 all the best and safe sailing on the Maiden Voyage. We owe big thanks to our team and partners for their hard work and collective efforts in reaching this major milestone for Skarv Shipping,” said Jan Øivind Svardal.
